On 30th March 2021, Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting announced wicket-keeper batsman Rishab Pant as the new captain of Delhi Capitals. Rishabh Pant is going to lead the side in absence of injured Shreyas Iyer, who has getting ruled out after suffering from a shoulder injury during the India vs England ODI series.
Rishabh Pant has made his IPL debut for DC in 2016, but he made a superlative impact in IPL 2018 when he slammed 684 runs with one century and five half-centuries at a strike rate of 173.60. Off lately, Pant has been in remarkable form and has given some match-winning performances in the series against Australia and England.
Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting says that “ Pant deserves to lead the franchise because of his recent tremendous performance”. He further adds that “Pants success in recent series gives him the confidence that was needed to take on the new role”.
Rishabh Pant in his new role comes up with a statement that “Delhi is where I grew up, and where my IPL journey began 6 years ago. To lead this team one day is a dream I’ve always harbored. And today as that dream comes true, I feel humbled. I am truly grateful, especially to our team owner, who consider me capable enough for this role”.
Now it is going to be interested to see Rishabh Pant as a leader of the Delhi Capitals. The team is going to begin their IPL 2021 campaign against Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai on 10th April 2021.
